Decatur Schools Urge Patience With Bus System
"Please expect delays the first two weeks. Thank you for your patience as schools, drivers and students learn the new routines."
The City Schools of Decatur sent out this message Tuesday to prepare kids and parents for the first day of school on Wednesday, Aug. 1.
The bus system will change compared to last year because the school system .

- Please check the district Transportation website http://www.csdecatur.net/transportation/ for bus route schedules, procedures and information.
- Bus News Flashes are updated from the field and are located on the District website http://www.csdecatur.net under News> Bus Updates or you may follow @CSDBusUpdates on Twitter. Delays will be posted when buses are running at least 15 minutes late.
- Buses will have the school's mascot displayed in the window.
- CSD will provide floating adult monitors who will ride a different bus each day.
- Students will have bus tags. They will be paper at first and then more durable tags will be issued.
- Students may have water bottles on the buses.
Expectations
- Please expect delays the first two weeks. Thank you for your patience as schools, drivers and students learn the new routines.
- Requests for route changes must be made via email to Simone Elder selder@csdecatur.net .
- Route changes will be made the week of August 20th, if necessary.
- Contact your child's school first for any transportation concerns. Schools will have staff on duty for one hour after the school day ends to handle bus challenges.
- Parents may not ride the school bus with their child unless they are a chaperone on a field trip
Bus Route Schedules
- Check the Transportation website for a list of routes and pick up times. Copies are also available at the schools.
- Administrators at each school have lists with students names for each route.
Transfer Point at FAVE- Morning
- The Transportation Committee (CSD staff, parents and community members) and a Transportation Audit recommended a transfer point to efficiently use financial and human resources.
- The 4/5 Academy at Fifth Avenue (FAVE) is the transfer point for Oakhurst, Winnona Park ESL students and College Heights PreK students.
- Adults will be supervising and coordinating the transfers at FAVE.
- English as Second Language (ESL) and ECLC preK students that live in walking distance to FAVE may walk to the transfer point.
- Parents may not drop off their children in a car. If students don't walk to the transfer point, they must ride the bus.
- FAVE students will exit the buses first.
- Pre-K students will exit the buses second and will be escorted one bus at a time to the ECLC bus.
- ESL students will exit the buses third and will be escorted one bus at a time to the Winnona Park bus.
Transfer Point at FAVE- Afternoon
- Buses will go to Winnona Park, Oakhurst and ECLC first, and then drive to FAVE.
- Pre-K students will board their transfer buses first, then ESL students and administrative transfers, followed by FAVE students.
- Adults will be supervising and coordinating the transfers at FAVE.
