Decatur Schools Enrollment: 3,584

This is about 10 percent more than the last school year.

, the City Schools of Decatur reported late Monday morning that enrollment was 3,584 students -- about 10 percent more than the previous school year.

As expected, enrollment growth was heaviest on the south side of town at and . Those schools are expected to have 39 or 40 more students, said Courtney Burnett, a CSD consultant.

Burnett said and expect 20-25 new students, the 56, about 70 and about 80.

To accommodate the growth, the school system is adding classrooms at Oakhurst Elementary and the 4/5 Academy. The system also plans to turn the Westchester building on Scott Boulevard, now used as central administrative offices, back into an elementary school.

The enrollment for the 2011-12 year was 3,254 students.
