Decatur's Superintendent's Contract Up For Vote

School board meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. at Westchester Auditorium.

The is scheduled to vote Tuesday on the superintendent’s new contract and whether to name Staples Business Advantage the sole supplier of office supplies and paper for the city schools.

The superintendent’s contract would run through the end of 2013. Superintendent Phyllis Edwards has asked that any money set aside for bonuses be used to “partially fund a one-time small award to all staff members in the form of a gift card,” agenda materials said.

Six firms bid to be the sole supplier of office supplies and paper for the system.  Staples Business Advantage provided the lowest bid for the contract, about $52,000.

The other bidders were Office Depot, OfficeMax, Quill.com, Sheffield Office Products and Source Office Supplies. The contract will be for one year with the option to renew annually for a three-year period.

In her report to the board, Edwards is expected to say that the school system won’t be receiving about $600,000 in tax revenue because residents are contesting their assessments, according to agenda materials.

The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Westchester Auditorium at 758 Scott Blvd. A full version of the agenda can be found on the school system website.
