Decatur Kids Move Their Dogs

Saturday's first-ever "Let's Move Them Dogs" attracted more than 100 students and their families to enjoy free fitness activities.

Michelle Obama wasn't there, but more than 100 Decatur teenagers and their families enjoyed fitness activities Saturday at the  stadium.

Saturday marked the debut of the “Let’s Move Them Dogs” Decatur Fitness Festival, featuring carnival-like activities such as a rock climbing wall, bungee run, pedestal joust, big foot races and more, as well as games like a toilet bowl toss, suction ball toss, an egg run and face painting.

On the field, adults and students exercised along to professional Yoga, Zumba, Nia and boot camp instructors who gave free demonstrations on the stage. The Decatur Farm to School Initiative  handed out samples of spiced apples, soup and a grits casserole.

The event was inspired by First Lady Michelle Obama's "Let's Move" initiative, designed to fight childhood obesity.

"When I first heard First Lady Obama speak about the Let's Move initiative, I felt that it was something that we could do for the youth of Decatur," said Decatur School Board member Bernadette Seals, who chaired the event.
