Decatur High Takes the Field Tonight

Football season starts at 7:30 p.m. when the Bulldogs play Holy Innocents in a scrimmage at DHS Stadium.

Fans will get their first look at this year's football team when the Bulldogs play Holy Innocents in a scrimmage game at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Decatur High Stadium.

Fans will see a lot of players on the field and sidelines. The school's , plans to dress out about 70 players for the game. Last year, only about 38 players dressed for games, he said.

"It's a big roster but it's a young roster," he said. "There's not a lot of Friday night experience."

The team has a handful of seniors. One of the leaders will be Terryon Robinson, a wide receiver who has already received a scholarship offer from South Alabama, Waggoner said.

Waggoner said other top seniors will be Andrew Brown, a transfer from Pennsylvania, and twins Terez and Perez Cowan.

On offense, Waggoner expects to use a multiple I formation. On defense, don't be surprised to see a five-man front.

For the scrimmage game, every player will see action, Waggoner said. He'll used older players the first thre quarters and younger players in the final quarter.

"A lot of what we're doing is new for these kids," Waggoner said. "We're going to have to grow up in a hurry."
