Decatur High Students Will Showcase Creativity On March 1

On March 22-24, students will perform "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves."

Decautur High is full of smart, talented kids, and in the school's performing arts center, they have a great venue to reveal their abilities.

If you want to find out for yourselves, here are two chances.

The school fine arts department will present a "Celebrating Creativity Showcase" at 7 p.m. March 1.  Doors to the visual arts display will open at 6 p.m., and the theater's doors will open at 6:40 p.m.

Jon Reese, chairman of the fine arts department, tells what's going to happen:

The event will include musical performances by band ensembles and student bands, vocal performances by chorus students, literary readings from creative writing students, a preview scene from the upcoming play "Robin Hood," poetry recitations from ninth grade Poetry Out Loud participants, visual art displays from high school, middle school and system elementary schools' art students, and dance performances by Decatur City Dance.

The school's new career academy will showcase its culinary arts students, who will offer a menu of gourmet samples during the event's intermission.

On March 22-24, Light 74 Productions, Decatur High School’s Acting Troupe, will present their spring production of Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.

All the shows are at 7 p.m. Tickets are  $8 for adults and $5 for students and can be purchased online.

The show is directed by Decatur High School’s theater director, Lynn Hosking and student director, Rachel Wansker. The Advanced Drama Students of the DHS theater department and Lynn Hosking are producing the show.  Craig Wertz leads set design and building (father of Luke Wertz, Robin Hood).  

As a part of her senior project, Chloe Moore is creating special designs for the show.  Costumes are provided by professional costume designer Jeannie Crawford, and for her senior project, Olivia McDavid is building the costume for Eleanor of Aquitaine’s character.  Fight choreography is arranged by Drew Reeves of the Atlanta Shakespeare Company.
