Decatur High SAT Scores Up 5 Points

Increase came in the mean writing score; reading and math scores static.

’s mean SAT score for 2011 rose five points over 2010, according to information released by the Georgia Department of Education. The mean total score for a DHS student was 1518.

Here’s how Decatur High scores break down for the last two years. You can see the actual increase occurred in the mean writing score for the school. Math and critical reading scores remained the same.

Decatur Metro provided some overview of the scores, noting that DHS’s statewide ranking on the SAT was 59th, up from 66th last year. Their report also included a link to an Excel list of 2011 SAT scores at all public schools in Georgia.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that statewide SAT scores dropped six points though participation increased.

The AJC also said that Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science and Technology was the state’s top performer, with an average score of 1914.

The State Department of Education noted the decrease but patted itself on the back for increased participation.
