DHS Lacrosse Team Plays Tournament Game Friday

The Decatur High Bulldogs face Blessed Trinity at 7 p.m. Friday in the quarterfinals at Decatur High Stadium.

The Decatur High boys face Blessed Trinity at 7 p.m. Friday in the quarterfinals of the state A-AAAAA tournament.

They played their first tournament game Tuesday against Kell and won 20-4.

Decatur is the top seed in its tournament, meaning the Bulldogs will play all their games at home until they are eliminated or win the tournament.

Decatur has a 17-2 record, with their only losses coming at the hands of McCallie (Tenn.) and Lassiter, which is the top seed among the AAAAAA schools.

Decatur started varsity lacrosse in 2007. The Bulldogs were 14-6 last year and lost to Pope in the tournament semi-finals.

According to the Decatur Bulldog Boosters newsletter, the lacrosse team players have racked up numerous honors.

  • 1st Team All-State Goalie and All-American: Ben Rigger.
  • 1st Team All-State Midfielder and All-American: Simeon Johnson.
  • 1st Team All-State Defenseman: Branford Frison.
  • 2nd Team All-State Midfielder: Andrew Brown.
  • 2nd Team All-State Attack: Nate Wilinski.
  • 2nd Team All-State Attack: Jonah Florence.
