Decatur High Grad Spoke At UGA Commencement

Peter McDonald opened with an anecdote about his summer job at a Decatur Active Living camp.

The Decatur Bulldog Boosters sent along this information in an email.

On Friday, May 11th, at the 2012 Spring Commencement ceremony at UGA before 50,000 graduating seniors, families, faculty and the Governor of Georgia, DHS’s own Peter J. McDonald was the Student Commencement Speaker.

Peter was a DHS varsity athlete (Class 2008) on the wrestling, soccer and cross-country teams and is remembered for his competitive nature and team spirit.

At the Spring 2012 commencement at UGA, Peter graduated summa cum laude from the UGA Honors Program, presented an eloquent and inspiring talk, and gave a huge shout-out to his hometown of Decatur (with many loud responses from the crowd!), referring to his work at Decatur sports camps and the difference that can be made for at-risk youth.

Congratulations, Peter and to his family (brother, Casey, and parents, Jill McDonald and Len Paulozzi) for this wonderful achievement.
