Decatur girls point guard Jordan Dillard shook her head Monday night and said, “I can’t understand why we’re not ranked. I mean, what’s up with that?”
The state’s coaches must’ve been listening, because in the poll released Tuesday afternoon Decatur is ranked seventh in Class AA.
The news comes several hours before this afternoon’s 5:30 p.m. regional showdown against fifth-ranked Lovett.

In going 21-9 last season, Decatur was ranked off and on during the early season before slipping out of the polls for good in February.
For the most part, getting ranked has been a rarity for Decatur’s girls in recent decades.

This year’s team, led by Dillard and senior shooting guard Queen Alford, who recently signed with Jacksonville University, is 5-0 with an average winning margin of 32.8 points per game.
Tonight figures to be much tougher.
Lovett is 6-1 coming off a powerful 49-34 thumping of second-ranked Greater Atlanta Christian. The Lions top players are 6-2 center Christen Johnson, who has signed with Northwestern, and 5-9 forward Tatianna Jackson, who has signed with UT-Chattanooga.
Lovett and Decatur last met in the regional tournament on Feb. 19, with Lovett winning 80-74 in triple overtime.
There are currently four Region 6-AA teams in the state’s top 10. Besides GAC, Lovett and Decatur, Buford is ranked first.
