Decatur Faces Greenville Friday Night

The Meriwether County school is 2-0 this year, the Bulldogs 1-1. Greenville gained fame because the former coach stayed on the job despite having Lou Gehrig's Disease.

Decatur plays Friday night against Greenville High, a small school with an inspiring backstory.

The Class A school about 70 miles to the south made the national news, including the front page of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, two years ago because the coach, Jeremy Williams, stayed on the job despite having Lou Gehrig's Disease.

Williams was named the 2010 Nation High School Football Coach of the Year before stepping down in July 2011.

The team is doing pretty well this year under head coach Roger McDonald, having beaten cross-county rival Manchester 7-6 last Friday and Albany 20-18 on Aug. 31.

Decatur won its first game of the season last week, . Terryon Robinson starred in that effort. That was also the first Decatur win for new coach Brad Waggoner.

The Friday game starts at 7:30 p.m. at Bulldog Stadium.
