Decatur Boys Lose To Manchester In First Round Of State Tournament

Bulldogs never led in 70-57 loss.

Decatur High can start looking ahead to spring sports.

The Decatur boys (13-16) ended their season Saturday night with a 70-57 loss to Manchester in the first round of the state AA tournament.

With the Decatur girls losing Friday night to Heard County, Decatur has no teams left in the tournament.

The Saturday game was played in Manchester, about two hours south of Decatur. The Bulldogs never led but pulled to 39-37 when Murad Dillard hit a three-point shot with 3:40 left in the third quarter.

After that, Manchester ran away with the game.

Manchester coach Curtis Noble said after the contest, "We turned our press up a notch and were able to get a lot of baskets in transition."

Decatur Coach Bill Copp said his team's defense was poor.

"As soon as they get the ball you have to fly back and guard," he said. "We didn't get back in time."
