Chipper Jones, Poet Rita Dove To Address Emory Grads

The retired Atlanta Brave will speak May 9 at Class Day. The former U.S. Poet Laureate will deliver the keynote address at the May 13 commencement ceremony.

Emory University grads will hear from a former Atlanta Brave and the former U.S. Poet Laureate next month.

Chipper Jones, the Braves star who retired at the end of last season, was chosen to speak May 9 at Class Day, an annual event for graduating seniors, according to the Emory Wheel student newspaper.

Former U.S. Poet Laureate Rita Dove will deliver the commencement address to Emory's new graduates on May 13.

The university says about 3,700 degrees will be bestowed and about 14,000 people will attend the ceremony on the campus quadrangle.

Dove was U.S. Poet Laureate from 1993 to 1995. That title recently was bestowed on Natasha Trethewey of Decatur, director of the Emory creative writing department.

For a full schedule of graduation events, look at the university webpage. In case of bad weather, the locations will change. See the university website for details.
