Particularly exciting for the students of FSA, the only Quaker school in Georgia, were Ambassador Young’s remarks about how the Quaker philosophy of consensus building and peacemaking helped him especially in negotiations during the civil rights movement as well as in his role as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, where he dealt with people from so many different cultures.

Throughout his career he has found that approaching people with respect and friendship helps build relationships in order to reach agreement on difficult issues.
