What Should Go Here? Corner of College and Sams Crossing

Because of an annexation that took effect last summer, this empty corner is now a gateway to the City of Avondale Estates.

East College Avenue and Sams Crossing is a busy spot, with buildings on three of the four corners.

But the northeast corner is empty. It has a flagpole and a for lease sign. The closest building is the empty Liquidation Outlet store.

This intersection used to be part of unincorporated DeKalb County, but the City of Avondale Estates annexed it through legislation earlier this year. (Annexation of residential property requires a referendum, but not annexation of commercial property.)

Now this corner is the far edge of the city limits and a gateway to the city.

What should go here? Another business, or perhaps a sign welcoming people to Avondale Estates? If you like the sign idea, what should it say?

How about leaving it a lovely green park-like area, as it has been for years??? Perhaps with one of those attractive Avondale Estates signs like the one that sits that side of the abelia hedge as we veer off onto S. Avondale Road. We do NOT need a business that will snarl traffic at that intersection!

Dorothy, you're right that a park-like area would be a nice change in that congested area.

This has already been around once and I suggested building a nice park. That corner is not useful for any other purpose because of the ingress and egress problems......there's just too much traffic.

Yeah no one goes there any more, it is too congested! I am sure no business wants to go at an intersection, all that traffic. They always want to be on dead end streets and such. I find all the so called suggestions to be disgusting. That is probably the reason the owner fought so hard to stay out of Avondale. Attitudes like these.... Too bad for him, he has to hear that BS from now on.
I know this is going over everyone's head but the owner, has assembled around 8 acres there and it will never be a park!

Gas Stations love corner lots. BUT, I thought that corner pictured was a memorial park area initiated by Ms.Stella Lanier (as well as the corner across the street).

Contented-Not,
The photo is the corner across East College from Lanier Park. I don't think it's part of Lanier Park because I didn't see anything to designate it that way. RE

Ralph Ellis,
Interesting, DeKalb County says they own it.
