Decatur Downtown Development Authority Approves 315 West Ponce

Carter can proceed with next step in application process, but must stick to several guidelines.

The Decatur Downtown Development Authority voted to approve a developer's initial application for a mixed-use project that would create 235 apartments, 10,000 square feet of retail space and a seven-story parking garage at 315 West Ponce de Leon Ave.

The Atlanta-based company can now proceed with filing its building permits, but the DDA issued a series of conditions that Carter must adhere to as the project moves forward.

Those conditions, which mainly call for the company to maintain continued dialogue with surrounding homeowners.

Among homeowners' biggest concerns are traffic, the project's scale and materials that will be used to construct it.

"It was no surprise to anyone that they approved the project as meeting the standards," Kathie Gannon, who lives at 335 West Ponce.

Gannon who also is a DeKalb County commissioner, said she hopes that Carter continues its lines of communication with residents and that its final plan submitted to get the building permits will reflect those discussions.

Carter officials have said keeping those lines of communication open and ongoing remains critically important and that they want to be good neighbors.
