Chai Pani To Open March 1 in Decatur

The Indian street food restaurant will occupy the old Watershed space on West Ponce.

The Indian street food restaurant Chai Pani will open March 1 at 406 W. Ponce de Leon Ave. in Decatur.

Chai Pani will be operated by the husband and wife team of Meherwan and Molly Irani, the owners of a restaurant by the same name in Asheville, N.C., according to an announcement that went out Tuesday afternoon.

The announcement said Indian cuisine in the United States is often dominated by northern Indian influences. Meherwan said in the message,

I wanted to bring the rest of India to the table – the colorful, vibrant and exquisite flavor profiles, the innovative regional diversity, the fun, the excitement, the bright flavors of street food and the simple refinement and comfort of home cooking.

The restaurant will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for lunch and 5:30 to 10 p.m. for dinner Tuesday through Sunday.

Chai Pani will occupy the space once filled by Watershed, a modern Southern restaurant that relocated to Buckhead.
