The Decatur City Commission will tackle two wireless issues Monday night.

City Manager Peggy Merriss is recommending the commission hire Brightlan LLC to maintain and operate the city wireless services. The contract with GTS, signed in 2007, has expired.

In a memo to the commission, Merriss noted that Brightlan's networks cover parts of North Georgia and that the company installed networks in Hapeville and Dublin. The memo did not say what the dollar amount of the contract would be.

Merriss is also recommending the commission approve a 75-cent charge per transaction on prepaid wireless services. The charge is allowed because of House Bill 256, which was approved in the 2011 legislative session. The service provider will collect the money and redistribute it.

The commission is also scheduled to vote on slightly changing the boundaries on election districts 1 and 2 to more nearly equalize the populations. The border on the north part of Agnes Scott College will be altered to effect the change.

The commission is also urged to accept a $19,243 bid from Southern Environmental Services of Marietta for asbestos abatement at the city recreation center. The asbestos must be taken care of before extensive renovations can start. A memo said the asbestos work should be finished in early September. Bids for the renovation should be put out in late August.

The commission starts with dinner at 6 p.m., holds a work session at 7 p.m. and holds the regular session at 7:30 p.m. City hall is at 509 N. McDonough St.
