At the Planning Commission meeting earlier this month, Fuqua Development presented a new set of plans for the Scott Boulevard Baptist Church (SBBC) site at the intersection of North Decatur Road and Scott Boulevard.

These plans for the Decatur Crossing development had not before been shared with surrounding neighbors and representatives for the Atlanta-based development firm admitted that they would need to go back before the community to present its new plans.

The Planning Commission voted for a full cycle referral, which means the entire updated proposal will again be reviewed by the Community Council, the Planning Commission and Board of Commissioners.

Up first is a scheduled Sept. 24 Board of Commissioners meeting where there will be an opportunity for public comments, as well as a binding vote by the Board. The 6:30 p.m. meeting will take place at Maloof Auditorium, located at 1300 Commerce Drive in Decatur.

This latest plan, the third from Fuqua since June, has seen the number of residential units reduced to just 18 from 260 units in an August plan. The building height was also reduced from five stories to three.

This third plan also presented a new road connecting the SBBC site to Blackmon Drive, which very well could impact traffic and the quality of life for nearby residents.

A 35,000 square-foot retail anchor tenant space sits near North Decatur, while five outparcels totaling between 3,470 and 4,500 square feet each will be built out along Scott and North Decatur.
