Little Shop of Stories Sponsors Mural Painting At Decatur Rec

Two Random House illustrators are scheduled to paint a mural on the recreation center playground wall at 3 p.m. Wednesday. Everybody is invited to watch them work.

The Little Shop of Stories is celebrating Screen Free Week in hopes of tearing kids away from the television.

Kids and parents are invited to watch two Random House illustrators paint a mural at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Decatur Recreation Center, as first reported on Decatur Metro.

The shop posted this invite:

In celebration of Screen Free Week, Random House is sending us two incredible authors/illustrators to help encourage kids to turn off the TV and read a book or play outside. They won’t be doing an in-store event, but they’ll be visiting Decatur schools in the morning and in the afternoon they’ll be painting a mural at the Decatur Recreation Center. So stop by in the afternoon to say hello and watch them work their magic!

The shop provided more details in this Facebook posting Tuesday, apparently because earlier plans called for another mural painting at McKoy Park.

IMPORTANT! PLEASE READ! We have moved Wednesday's mural painting with illustrators Chris Raschka and Bob Staake to the playground behind Decatur Rec Center at 231 Sycamore Street. Please plan to join us as we celebrate Unplugged Week! Tell all of your friends! Painting begins around 3pm.
