Sunday Strolls Resume at Decatur Cemetery

The stroll starts at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, after which Miss Emily Pittman's gravesite will be rededicated.

The Decatur Cemetery is the largest patch of greenspace in the city as well as a trove of historical information.

The Friends of the Decatur Cemetery conduct guided tours, called Second Sunday Strolls, during the warm weather months. The first stoll of the season is this Sunday

The Friends of Decatur Cemetery would like to invite you to the rededication ceremony of the gravesite of Miss Emily Pittman. The Friends of Decatur Cemetery (FODC), along with the City of Decatur completed a years-long restoration of the gravesite last fall.

Miss Emily’s gravesite is located near the gazebo in the old section of Decatur Cemetery. The ceremony will take place after the initial “Second Sunday Stroll” of the season.

The Second Sunday Strolls, guided tours of the historic old section, start from the gazebo at 2:30 p.m. You are welcome to join the tour as well.

The Rev. Kate Colussy-Estes, Julia Thompson Smith Chaplain at Agnes Scott College, will deliver a prayer of dedication. Following the ceremony, light refreshments will be served in the gazebo.
