Precinct Breakdown Shows Romney Had Wide Support in Decatur, Avondale

Newt Gingrich carried Georgia in the GOP presidential primary on Tuesday, but voters in Decatur and Avondale Estates clearly favored Mitt Romey.

Romney got the most votes in every Decatur precinct and in Avondale Estate's one precinct, according to unofficial vote tallies released by the DeKalb County Elections Office.

That reflected DeKalb County as a whole, where Romeny got 38.84 percent of the vote and Gingrich 36.40 percent.

But Gingrich won Georgia. Across the state, Gingrich got about 47 percent of the vote, compared to 26 percent for Romney, 20 percent for Rick Santorum and 7 percent for Ron Paul.

Several candidates got votes who'd dropped out of the race, such as Rick Perry, but they left the contest too late to have their names removed from the ballot.
