TSPLOST Rally Monday in Decatur

Decatur Mayor Bill Floyd and Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed are scheduled to appear.

The last-minute push for the regional transportation referendum -- also known as TSPLOST -- intensifies Monday afternoon when Decatur Mayor Bill Floyd and other Metro Atlanta government leaders gather on the Decatur Court Square p.m. to encourage people to vote for TSPLOST.

The event will be held from 5 to 7 p.m.

Other officials scheduled to attend include Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, DeKalb CEO Burrell Ellis, state Sen. Jason Carter, state Reps. Mary Margaret Oliver and Stan Watson and DeKalb Sheriff Thomas Brown.

Here are some previous Patch stories about TSPLOST.

Folks, let's all be there to show our opposition to this forever tax. This is billed as a 1% Sales Tax Increase; however, it actually raises what you pay in sales tax on everything you buy by over 14%. We do not need to raise taxes in a recession. The City of Decatur, with the highest Ad Valorem Taxes in the state and with all the new construction and renovation in the city, should not need money. Mr. Mayor Floyd, please change your position of support for this unnecessary tax increase IN A RECESSION.
