Romney Takes DeKalb, But Not State; Unincorporated Sunday Sales Pass

Sunday sales can start May 6.

Mitt Romney got the most DeKalb County votes among Republican candidates in Tuesday's presidential primary, though Newt Gingrich won the state.

In another vote, Sunday sales were easily approved for unincorporated DeKalb County. The earliest those Sunday sales can take place is May 6.

Precinct-by-precinct votes were not available Wednesday morning, but here are the countywide totals, as provided by the DeKalb County Elections Office.

Herb Chereck, owner of the on Clairmont Road, said he plans to be ready May 6 when Sunday sales of alcohol are first allowed in unincorporated DeKalb.

Chereck's store is just outside the Decatur City Limits, so he handles a lot of business from Decatur residents.

in the Nov. 8 election but that only affected beer and wine sales, since there's no hard liquor outlet in either town.

Both those towns quickly changed the city ordinances to allow Sunday sales.

Avondale Estates beat Decatur to the punch by a week, on Sunday, Nov. 20.
