MARTA To Give Details On Clifton Corridor Light Rail Line On Monday

A planning committee will make a presentation to MARTA's board at 1:30pm on April 9. The presentation will cover proposed plans to connect the Emory/Clifton Corridor with Avondale's MARTA station with a light rail.

MARTA plans to provide details Monday, April 9, about the , a light rail line that would connect the Avondale Estates station with Emory, the CDC and the Lindbergh Center.

Needless to say, the transit project would have a huge impact on Decatur and the unincorporated area north of town.

One of the stops on the line would be , where a Super Walmart is planned.

The Clifton Corridor is not a done deal by any means.

The project depends on to raise money for the project. That 10-county referendum will be held July 31. And the MARTA board has to approve it.

The Clifton Corridor Transit Initiative Facebook page provides this route for the rail line, which would run through tunnels and elevated sections: From Lindbergh Center Station it would extend southeast along the CSX rail line through the CDC/Emory University area to Clairmont Road at North Decatur Road. The line would extend south to Scott Boulevard, where it would run north, then east along North Decatur Road to DeKalb Industrial Way. There it would extend south then west onto East College Avenue and end at the Avondale Station.

  • 8.8 miles of light rail double track (includes tunnels and elevated sections)
  • 10 light rail station platforms
    • Lindbergh Center (transfer to Red or Gold Lines)
    • Cheshire Bridge
    • Sage Hill
    • CDC/Emory Point
    • Emory-Rollins
    • Emory-Clairmont
    • North Decatur
    • Suburban Plaza
    • DeKalb Medical Center
    • Avondale Station (transfer to Blue Line)
  • 3 additional optional stations for consideration
    • Piedmont (transfer to BeltLine)
    • DeKalb Industrial
    • North Arcadia (old DeVry campus)
  • 2 Maintenance and/or storage facilities

MARTA's planning staff will give a full presentation at 1:30 p.m. April 9  in MARTA's sixth floor board room, 2424 Piedmont Road NE, Atlanta.
