Former Decatur Mayor Jack Hamilton Dies

Mr. Hamilton, 93, was mayor during the construction of the current Decatur High School.

Jack Hamilton Jr., mayor of Decatur during the 1960s, died Feb. 3. He was 93.

The family obit on Legacy.com says,

Hamilton was elected to the City Council of Decatur, Ga in 1961.During his 10 years on the City Council he served as Mayor of Decatur championing an Urban renewal program and the construction of the current Decatur High School.

Hamilton also served as President of the Georgia Municipal Association, the highest office a City Official can hold in Georgia.

Chris Billingsley sent a photo of a 1965 dedication plaque at Decatur High that lists Mr. Hamilton as mayor and Roy A. Blount as chairman of the city school board.

Funeral services will be at noon Saturday in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons with burial in Decatur Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the prior to the service.
