Follow-up Classes Added to Decatur 101

Graduates of the city's Decatur 101 course can go back to school with Decatur 101 Encore.

And now for the encore. Decatur 101 has gone so well that the city has added a follow-up course.

The first Decatur 101 Encore classes will be held on Thursday, Sept. 27 and Friday, Oct. 4. They will feature Emergency Management (including police & fire) and Decatur schools plus some other updates. Classes will be in the mornings from 10 a.m. - noon and in the evenings from 7 - 9 p.m.  There will be optional tours at 9:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.  There will even be “goodies.”

Decatur 101 Encore will be offered every year in the fall, in response to requests from many of Decatur 101’s 700 graduates, who want to learn more about a variety of topics in a “continuing education-type” format. Different topics will be featured each year.

Decatur 101 is a program designed to educate the community about city government. Participants learn how the city of Decatur works, who is responsible for what, and what steps they can take to make a difference.

The next Decatur 101 class will be offered in March 2013. It will be a little longer next year, and if the Encore course goes well, the city is planning to add the two classes to the Decatur 101 sessions permanently.
