In honor of the 70th anniversary of the creation of the nation's first all Africa-American pursuit squadron, the Atlanta City Council will recognize the surviving Tuskegee Airmen.
The city will issue a proclamation in their honor and hold a reception.
Of the seventeen Tuskegee Airmen who live in Atlanta, eleven will be present for Monday's event.
Council member Michael Julian Bond led the effort to honor the airmen.
