State Budget Town Hall Meeting

State Senator Jason Carter, House Minority Leader Stacey Abrams, Representative Mary Margaret Oliver, Representative Stephanie Stuckey Benfield, and Decatur Mayor Bill Floyd will co-host a Town Hall Meeting focusing on the 2011 state budget.

The state is facing a $1.5 billion budget gap and a task force formed by the General Assembly -- Special Council for Tax Reform and Fairness for Georgians -- recently recommended having Georgians pay sales taxes on groceries and prescription medicines and a higher tax on cigarettes in exchange for lower state income taxes.  Other budget-cutting proposals include cuts to education, health care and public safety.
