DeKalb Hosts 30th Annual MLK Celebration

This year's keynote speaker was Isaac Newton Farris, Jr., King Center Senior Fellow.

Hundreds attended the DeKalb County annual MLK Celebration program Friday, Jan. 17 in the Maloof Auditorium in Decatur. This program marked the 30th consecutive year that DeKalb County employees organized such an event honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  The theme for this year’s event was Celebrating Life, Freedom and Diversity.

This year’s keynote speaker was Isaac N. Farris, Jr.  In 1996, Farris was appointed Chief Operating Officer of The Martin Luther King, Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change (The King Center), and in 2005 he was appointed President and CEO of The King Center and served in that capacity until March 2010. Farris currently serves as Senior Fellow of The King Center where he continues to write, and lecture on the life, philosophy and legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr.
