Decatur Rec Center Nears Completion
The Active Living staff moves next week. Kids and adults should be taking classes and playing ball in the renovated building in early February.
The renovated Decatur Recreation Center at 231 Sycamore St. should be ready for the public in a little more than a month.
Starting Jan. 7, the front desk opens in the rec center for registrations, payments and general information.
However, kids and adults should not show up ready to play basketball and take classes because the renovation work is not complete, said Cheryl Burnette, assistant director for Active Living.

Rec and after school programs will continue in the Beacon Hill Complex at 430 W. Trinity Place until the rec center is ready.
That should happen on Feb. 4. Active Living plans to being programming in the renovated building on that date.

The Active Living and after-school administrative staffs move to the renovated rec center next week from the Beacon Hill Complex.
The rec center was built in 1955. The renovation project will cost about $6 million and includes offices, refurbished gymnasium and the addition of a walking track.
The renovation started in spring 2011.
