Decatur Invites Public To Sustainability Workshop

Residents offered ideas that led to this first draft.

Last year, the City of Decatur asked residents for ideas about how to make the city environmentally sustainable. This was part of the Strategic Planning process.

Now you can find out how the city staff digested those ideas.

From 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, the Decatur Environmental Sustainability Board will hold an open house on the first draft of the sustainability plan.

According to the city, the plan is supposed to “address issues such as the creation of a climate action plan, initiatives such as an ordinance to limit motor vehicle idling, and roof color standards to reduce the heat island effect.”

The open house takes place in the city commission meeting room in city hall, 509 N. McDonough St. Expect to do more than look at documents. The city will have rain barrels and other recycling demonstrations.
