The rezoning of the Scott Boulevard Baptist Church – part of a new, mixed use redevelopment plan called Decatur Crossing – will go before a DeKalb County Community Council this week.

Fuqua Development, an Atlanta firm, wants to rezone the church at the intersection of North Decatur Road and Scott Boulevard so it can develop a 40,000-square foot mixed use retail project that would also include 200 apartments over five stories.

The District 2 Community Council will hear the rezoning proposal at Toco Hill-Avis G. Williams Library on Tuesday, Aug. 20 at 6:30 p.m. The council, a board of residents, submits recommendations to the county government that can be considered by the zoning board and the board of commissioners in their rulings. But council votes are not binding.

Good Growth DeKalb, a local group fighting the construction of a Walmart Supercenter in North Decatur's Suburban Plaza, is also protesting the church rezoning and has encouraged residents to attend the meeting.
