Decatur Could Have Sunday Sales By Nov. 27, Avondale Estates By Dec. 18

Decatur only needs one reading of the amendment to the alcohol ordinance, while Avondale needs three.

Sunday sales of alcohol could be a reality in Decatur by Nov. 27 and in Avondale Estates by Dec. 18.

In an email to Patch, Decatur City Manager Peggy Merriss explained that Decatur has a streamlined the approval process:

The City Commission will consider amendments to the Alcohol Beverage Ordinance at their regular meeting on November 21st, including amendments to allow Sunday retail sales for off premises consumption. We only require one consideration for an amendment to ordinances, so if the amendments pass and are effective upon adoption (which is the norm), Sunday sales would be legal on Sunday, November 27, 2011.
