Decatur To Discuss Temporary Quarters for Police
The department would work out of the Wells Fargo building near First United Methodist while its old space is renovated at the Beacon Hill Center.
Where will the Decatur Police Department go while the current station is renovated?
The City of Decatur staff recommends the police move into into 7,500 square feet of space in the Wells Fargo Building at 250 E. Ponce de Leon Ave., across North Candler Street from the First United Methodist Church.
The City Commission will vote on the proposal at a meeting that starts at 7:30 p.m. Monday in city hall.

In a letter to the commission, Deputy City Manager Hugh Saxon says the rent would be $10,500 monthly and the lease with DCP Renaissance Investors LLC would start this month.
The police department is part of the Beacon Hill Center on West Trinity Place. The city plans to renovate the entire complex, creating a modern police department as well as space for the administrative offices of the City Schools of Decatur.

Residents can watch the meeting on live streaming video on their home computers by going to the city website.
The commission meetings will still be rebroadcast on Comcast channel 25 at 2 p.m. Saturday.
