Decatur Commission To Consider Changes to Alcohol Ordinance

Sunday sales not the only amendment on the agenda.

The Decatur City Commission is scheduled to vote Monday night on several amendments to the city alcohol ordinance.

is the most anticipated change. That would allow retail establishments in Decatur to sell alcohol between 12:30 and 11:30 p.m. on Sundays.

Now the city commission has to approve it. If that happens, Sunday sales would start next weekend, Nov. 27.

The city says these businesses have licenses for retail sale for off-premises consumption:

  • Ale Yeah! Craft Beer Market - 906 W. College Ave.
  • Cook’s Warehouse & Sherlock’s Wine - 180 W Ponce de Leon Ave.
  • Devki (Citgo) Food Mart - 600 W. Howard Ave.
  • Econo Flash - 527 E College Ave.
  • Hop N Shop - 710 East Lake Drive
  • J’s Food Mart - 747 East College Ave.
  • Kroger #651 - 720 Commerce Drive
  • Oakhurst Market - 650-A East Lake Drive

The other amendments to the alcohol ordinances would:

  • Prohibit anybody from serving alcohol if they’ve been convicted of certain crimes in the last five years. The time limit is now 10 years.
  • Establish a $100 fee for a corking license.
  • Permit restaurants with pouring licenses to allow customers to bring in their own bottles of wine.
  • Establish an alcoholic beverage catering license.
  • Require city review of sidewalk tables placed on city-owned right-of-way.

At 5:30 p.m., the commission plans to go into executive session to discuss personnel matters.

At 6:45 p.m., a work session will be held on traffic calming for Ponce de Leon Terrace.

The commission starts its regular meeting at 7:30 p.m. The meetings will be held in city hall.
