CCP Games Lays Off Half Ga. Workers

Company is moving its American corporate headquarters to Decatur.

CCP Games is still moving its American corporate headquarters from Stone Mountain to Decatur, but the company recently laid off half its Georgia workforce, Decatur Metro reports.

That's bad, because Decatur had hoped the company would expand its number of employees.

Decatur was very excited back in February when the Iceland-based digital entertainment developer announced the move. Said Mayor Bill Floyd, β€œThe CCP decision to relocate to the City of Decatur is the type of announcement that every city wants to make."

up 40,000 square feet at 250 E. Ponce de Leon Ave. and create 150 jobs over the next few years, doubling the size of the company's American staff.

The company is cutting its worldwide staff of about 600 by 20 percent, with most of the cuts coming in the Atlanta area, according to LayOff Watch. The Atlanta office is doing much of the work on the World of Darkness game, LayOff Watch reported.

The city helped CCP Games make the move. In August, the Decatur Downtown Development Authority Board of Directors passed a resolution supporting a REBA (Regional Economic Business Assistance) grant of $500,000 from the Georgia Department of Community Affairs to CCP Games.

Lyn Menne, an assistant city manager, said in an email to Patch: "The city did not provide any financial incentives to support this move.Β  They received a grant through the state of Georgia that is related to job creation so we are working to find out how that is impacted. From what we understand the relocation is still going forward."

CCP Games said Decatur's vibe helped the company make the decision to move.

The Patch story quoted Mike Tinney, president of CCP North America, as saying,"Decatur offers the perfect blend of big city accessibility with a hometown feel that we were looking for. Georgia's financial climate combined with Decatur's social climate provide the ideal conditions for continued growth."
