Avondale to Focus on Metal Theft

Georgia Power investigator to discuss this growing problem on Thursday.

Metal theft will be discussed from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at an Avondale Estates Citizens Quarterly Training Session in

All Avondale residents can attend but the program is designed for business owners.

Metro area law enforcement agencies have said metal theft is a growing problem, with thieves taking objects such as air conditioners, street signs and copper tubing from houses for resale. Twenty-six metro area law enforcement agencies, not including the Avondale or Decatur police, recently formed a task force to combat metal theft.

At the Avondale event, an investigator from Georgia Power will talk about the reasons for thefts, suggested protection methods and some tips to help reduce economic loss.
