Two Decatur Women Killed in Car Crash

The women were traveling in Buckhead during yesterday's violent storms.

Two Decatur women were killed when a tree fell on their vehicle while driving in Buckhead during Thursday night's violent thunderstorms, Atlanta police said.

The accident happened around 7 p.m., at 3835 Paces Ferry Road, according to police.

The women were identified Friday by the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office as Marion "Diane" Irwin, 61, and Geraldine T. Grady, 64. They were best friends and neighbors driving home from work as housekeepers, news reports said.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that the two women were killed when the tree fell on their Mazda Miata, which was traveling south on Paces Ferry Road at Nancy Creek Road,  according to Atlanta Fire Battalion Chief Bryant Tate.

Their car swerved out of control and hit a mailbox, authorities said, according to the newspaper.
