Speeders Beware: Limit Reduced on Sycamore Drive

Decatur Police have begun enforcing a new, lower speed limit on the portion of Sycamore Drive within the city limits.

From a news release:

Drivers may not have noticed that the speed limit has dropped on the section of Sycamore Drive within the Decatur city limits.

The change was made on Monday, May 19, police said, which reduced the speed limit to 30 mph.

In addition, the City of Decatur has classified this section of road as a residential zone, which means police officers are not required to extend a 10 mph leeway before issuing a citation.

The Decatur Police Department will begin speed enforcement based on the reduced speed limit immediately; however warning citations will be issued for speed violations for the next 30 days.

An exception to this will be drivers whose speed would have been 10 mph or more over the previous speed limit, police said.
