Offices Burglarized In Rutland Building On Church Street

Decatur police are also investigating a bicycle theft.

This information comes from Decatur Police Department reports.

Several offices were reported burglarized Jan. 25 in the Rutland Building at 215 Church St.

One of the buidling employees arrived about 6:45 a.m., noticed damage to some office doors and contacted police. When police arrived, they discovered four office doors had been pried open and the glass in one door smashed.

Police couldn't contact every office occupant to determine what was missing. The people who run Imagine said a messenger bag worth $120 and two Mac laptops worth $1,500 were taken.

The building owner provided police with a security camera tape but wasn't sure if the system was operating properly.

A man reported Jan. 16 that his 1995 Honda Accord was stolen from the 100 block of West Ponce de Leon Avenue. The owner said he parked the car earlier in the day in a marked space and returned shortly before 11 p.m. to find it gone.

 

Someone tried to break into a house in the 300 block of Greenwood Avenue the afternoon of Jan. 22.

The resident said she left about 12:30 p.m. and returned about 5 p.m. to discover the front doormat had been pushed aside. On the back porch, a grill, lawn chairs and other items were moved, as if somebody was looking for a hidden key. A basement door showed pry marks.

The owner said she'd contact police if she discovered any items were missing.

 

A man said his bike rack was stolen from the top of his car on Jan. 24. The man said he last saw the Yakima bike rack about 1 p.m. at the 100 block of Glenn Street that day and noticed it missing about 8:30 p.m. The bike rack was valued at $150.

 

The offices of Mecsouth at 318-A E. Howard Ave. were reported burglarized Jan. 25. A passerby noticed the side entrance glass door broken and called police. Stolen were a Toshiba laptop worth $1,500 and a leather backpack containing computer cords and memory sticks worth $200.00.

 

A Decatur High student told police his gray and blue Giant Boulder mountain bike was stolen from a bike rack at the school Jan. 23. The student said the bike lock was stolen, too.
