Robbers 'Politely' Push Way into House; Steal Jewelry, Cash and Medicines

While two men held up a large rug for sale, another stole items from a Medlock Park area home.

An elderly DeKalb County woman was robbed by thieves who tried to sell her a large rug, then held it up to obscure the victim’s vision as a partner stole items from the home.

Mary Phillips, 88, of Medlock Park said two men politely pushed their way into her house Feb. 19 to sell the rug and talk about a new antique store, says WSB TV.

"I told him I didn't need a rug," she said. "It should have dawned on me, honey, but I have bad health and I just don't think like I used to."

While the two men held up the rug, Phillips said another man must have come into her home. According to the police report, the suspects stole jewelry, cash and her husband's medication.

Phillips said one of the men even gave her a hug to put her at ease. "And said, 'Momma I'll take care of you,'" she said. "I thought he knew me."

The victim's family reported that the men were seen in a white older model Ford Ranger truck.
