Riverdale Teen Arrested for Allegedly Detonating Homemade Bomb

Clayton County Police arrested a 16-year-old teen Wednesday night after responding to reports of a detonated explosive device at his Riverdale home.

A 16-year-old Clayton County teen was arrested Wednesday after officials responded to a bomb threat at his Riverdale home.

Officers responded to the home at the 8000 block of Cedar Bend Court around 11 p.m. Wednesday after learning "the boy, who lives at home, detonated a homemade explosive device before officers arrived," the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Police evacuated nearby residents and brought bomb-sniffing dogs to the scene, according to a statement released by police spokesman Ron Coloma Thursday morning. The bomb was made of common household chemicals and no one was injured, Coloma said.

The teen was charged with possession/manufacture of a destructive device, reckless conduct and possessing explosive materials. The boy was taken into custody and later released by his parents.
