Police: Man Charged With Posing as Cop to Get out of Speeding Ticket

A man who allegedly posed as a police officer in hopes of getting out a speeding ticket now faces a felony charge of impersonating an officer and up to five years in prison.

Curshawn Bussey, 24, faces a charge of felony impersonating a public officer after he reportedly told Avondale Estates police in city court that he was an Atlanta police officer and formerly a DeKalb County officer, reports WSB TV. Bussey was in court about a speeding ticket he received in March. 
 
Officers said before Bussey’s case was called he asked the officer who gave him the ticket to dismiss the citation as a professional courtesy. When officers asked Bussey for his credentials to prove he was an officer, he reportedly said he had left his badge and identification in his locker at work. 

Calls to the Atlanta and DeKalb County police departments turned up no one who knew Bussey. A check with the state agency that certifies Georgia police officers showed no record of Bussey, which led officers to arrest him, the TV station says.
 
Bussey told Magistrate Court Judge Curtis Miller that he's not a troublemaker. 

"I've never been arrested for anything. Never been in any serious trouble, other than traffic. Minor traffic violations," Bussey said.
