Pistol Fired At Decatur Christmas Party

One man was arrested. Nobody was badly injured during the late-night incident in the 400 block of West Trinity Place.

Decatur police jailed a man after he allegedly fired a pistol at a Christmas night party.

Police said they went to an apartment in the 400 block of West Trinity Place about 11 p.m. after reports of gunfire and and found a crowd had gathered.

A man said he got into a fight outside the apartment after people laughed at a friend who was sick and vomiting. During the fight, another man fired a pistol several times in the air and put the pistol to his head, the first man said.

Police took the suspect to the police station for questioning and he admitted firing the pistol while intoxicated, but denied putting the gun to the first man's head, according to the investigation report.

Officers found four .40-caliber shell casings in the parking lot but didn't find the pistol. The suspect said the gun belonged to a cousin and was taken away by somebody he didn't know, the report said.

Chad Brooks, 28, of Oregon Trail, Decatur, was charged with aggravated assault, battery, discharging a firearm while under the influence, pointing or aiming a pistol another, and reckless conduct.
