Phone Stolen From Agnes Scott Student

Police said somebody grabbed a student's phone and camera that she left unattended. The suspect escaped but the student's camera was recovered.

Agnes Scott College police said law enforcement officers with a tracking dog searched for a suspect March 19 after a student's cell phone and camera were stolen.

Agnes Scott Police Lt. Guy Antinozzi called it a crime of opportunity. He said the student was working on a project on a patio on South Candler Street, not far from Dougherty Street, and laid her phone and camera on the driveway.

A DeKalb County police officer who happened to be in the area saw the male suspect grab the phone and camera, Antinozzi said.

Agnes Scott, DeKalb County and Decatur police officers mounted a search, which included a tracking dog, he said.

The suspect was tracked to the 700 block of South Candler, where the trail was lost, he said. The camera was recovered near Dougherty Street.

Police did not have a detailed description of the suspect. Antinozzi said he didn't know if the theft was related to recent armed robberies in Decatur in which the suspects demanded cell phones.

This may be the "sixth" case of armed robbery that some were talking about. If so, it's a relief to know it's wasn't truly armed robbery but still sorry for the student involved. No fun being the victim of a crime.
