Murder Charges Filed in Shooting Death of 9-Month-Old

Police believe Marco Watson and Devin Thomas killed Kendarius Edwards and seriously injured his mother, grandmother and a family friend in a May 10 home invasion.

Two men already in jail on other charges were arrested and charged in the fatal shooting last month of a 9-month-old boy in DeKalb County.

DeKalb Public Safety Director Cedric Alexander said at a Thursday morning press conference that Marco Watson, 36, and Devin Thomas, 18, will face murder and aggravated assault charges stemming from the May 10 home invasion that killed Kendarius Edwards and seriously injured his mother, grandmother and another woman.

Watson was in jail for a probation violation and Thomas for making a false statement, the AJC reported.

Alexander did not say which man may have fired the fatal shot.

The men allegedly were wearing masks when they broke into mother Tanyika Smith’s home on Tolani Farm Road in Stone Mountain on Saturday night, May 10. They reportedly chased the three women into a bathroom and opened fire.

Smith, who was hit in the face by a bullet, told WSB-TV she was holding Kandarius as the group took cover.

According to police after the incident, the baby was shot three to four times at point-blank range, WGCL TV.

Police said Thursday the shootings may have been in retaliation in a string of violence that started with a fatal shooting at a May 3 house party, AJC reported. A possible witness to that shooting was found dead a week later and Thomas may have been friends with that victim, police said.
