Detectives: Wife of Man Found Dead In Home May Have Been Kidnapped

The husband of Shirley Dermond was found dead in the couple's home on Lake Oconee around 10 a.m. Tuesday, and Putnam County detectives fear the woman may have been abducted.

Detectives in a central Georgia county believe a missing 87-year-old woman may have been kidnapped after her husband was found dead in their home on Lake Oconee.

According to WSB-TV, friends of Richard and Shirley Dermond went to the couple's home Tuesday morning and discovered what they believed to be the body of the 88-year-old man. 

Putnam detective said the woman was not at home at the time her husband's body was found, and they now suspect she may have been abducted from the home, the news agency reports. 

The killing, according to the news station, happened between Friday and Sunday.

The Eatonton Messenger reports the sheriff's office has classified the death as a homicide. 

The newspaper reports the woman stands at 5 feet, 2 inches tall, weighs 148 pounds and has grey hair and blue eyes.
