Decatur Police Say Cash Reported Stolen From Hillcrest Avenue Apartment

Two stolen vehicle reports turn out to be unfounded.

This information comes from reports provided by the Decatur Police Department.

A woman told Decatur police $56 in cash was stolen Dec. 5 from her Hillcrest Avenue apartment.

The woman said she placed the money on a window sill inside her apartment, left to take a smoke and make a phone call and returned about 10 minutes later to find the money gone.

Decatur police investigated two reports of stolen vehicles, only to find out no theft actually occurred.

A woman reported about 11:30 p.m. Dec. 5 that her black Land Rover was taken from a Kirk Road address. She said she left the vehicle about 9:50 p.m. and returned to find it missing. The woman said she didn’t have her keys.

About noon on Dec. 6, the woman told police she got the vehicle back. A friend had moved the Land Rover so it wouldn’t be impounded.

In the second case, police went to Decatur Public Works about noon Nov. 28 and were told a rented 2007 Freightliner was missing. The vehicle had been left at the location with the keys in the ignition about 5 p.m. Nov. 25.

About 4 p.m. on Nov. 28, public works called police and said it was all a big misunderstanding. An employee had taken the truck home. The alert on the stolen vehicle was cancelled.

Decatur police said an iPod, cell phone and debit card were reported stolen Nov. 30 from a locker at Decatur High.

A parent of the student called police and said the items were taken between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. from an unsecured locker inside a locker room. The debit card was immediately cancelled.
