Decatur Police Issue Burglary Alert following North Parkwood Drive Incident

Victim was slapped in face by burglar.

From the Decatur Police Department:

On 10/23/13 at approximately 10:13 p.m., Decatur police responded to a burglary that just occurred in the 800 block of North Parkwood Drive. The victim stated she returned home and noticed her exterior lights were off.  She entered her home and heard a noise coming from a bedroom.  She turned on the lights and observed an unknown male standing in the bedroom.  The male covered his face with his arm.  The victim told the male she was going to get a gun and he struck her in her face with the back of one of his hands as he ran past her carrying some of her property and fled the home. The victim pointed out a side window that was now open and stated the window had been closed but likely unlocked and a plant stand had been moved near the window and believed to have been used to help gain access to the window.  There were no signs of forced entry. The exterior light bulbs had been unscrewed.  A wooden box containing a stamp collection was stolen.  No weapon was used or threatened by the suspect.  The victim did not sustain any injuries.  The suspect was described as follows:

  • Black male
  • Late 20s
  • Approximately 5’4" and 140 pounds
  • Slight build
  • Medium-brown complexion
  • Last seen wearing a dark green hooded sweatshirt and dark pants

Separately, On 10/24/13 at approximately 8:17 a.m., Decatur Police responded to a previous burglary in the 100 block of Coventry Road.  The victim stated he left his home the previous evening and returned this morning to discover items missing from inside of his home.  The rear door was left unsecured.  There were no signs of forced entry. Two laptops, a camera, game system, small safe and jewelry were stolen.
